The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines require periodic inspections of the fire, smoke and ceiling dampers. According to the current NFPA Standard 92A, 80, & 105 the following maintenance shall be performed:

Fusible links (where applicable) shall be removed
All dampers shall be operated to verify that they close fully
The latch, if provided, shall be checked
Moving parts shall be lubricated as necessary
JCAHO – Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals – also requires Fire Damper Inspections & Testing.
